About Us

Mike Montgomery

President and Chief Announcer

The vision for what became the Pegasus Sports Network was hatched in 1979 when Mike Montgomery first began broadcasting high school basketball on a small-town AM radio station, the former AM 1600 WSTL in Eminence, KY.  Over the next 10 years, Mike served as the voice of Oldham County Colonel sports, broadcasting football and basketball games over stations such as WXLN 105.7 FM and “Thunder” 101.7 FM, as well as Oldham County Cablevision.  In 1989, South Oldham High School was built, and Mike added “Voice of the Dragons” to his resume.  By the late 1990s, Mike was serving as the Sports Director for a four-station radio station cluster, overseeing three announcing crews that covered all five high schools, broadcasting nearly 100 high school games a year.

By the late 1990s, Pegasus also began to emerge as the unofficial voice of the 8th region basketball tournaments (boys & girls), as Mike broadcast each and every game of both events.

In 2003, with the opening of North Oldham HS, Pegasus Sports added “Voice of the Mustangs” to its job description.

With regional radio stations rapidly disappearing from the local landscape by the early 2000s, Pegasus Sports underwent a dramatic makeover, as Mike turned to the internet for the 2005 football season.

The move to the internet has been tremendously successful; Colonel, Dragon, and Mustang fans from as far away as Texas, South Dakota, Alaska, Arizona, and even Belgium have become regular listeners.  For many, this is the only way they will ever experience the games of friends and relatives in North Central Kentucky.

Mike was born in Louisville, KY, but moved out to Oldham County in 1976.  He is a 1980 graduate of Oldham County High School, and a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Business (1985).  He’s been married to his wife, Rhonda, since 1988, and they have two boys. Kevin attends Tennessee Wesleyan College where he runs cross-country and track, and Shaun attends Oldham County HS where he also runs cross-country and track.

When he’s not broadcasting games, Mike coaches Little League baseball and YMCA basketball teams.
